BOX SCORE

SURREY, B.C. -- A huge game from the Lady Vols' Lauren Gibson wasn't enough to lift Team USA to the Canadian Open Championship as the Eagles fell to Japan, 9-6, in eight innings late Monday night. Gibson was 3-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI.

Gibson had her best game of the summer as she smacked a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4 after Team USA had fallen behind 4-0.

Gibson also singled in the fifth inning and the decisive eighth inning. Team USA allowed five runs in the top of the eighth to fall behind 9-4. The Eagles mounted a rally in the bottom of the eighth scoring two runs on a Samantha Fisher homer, but it wasn't enough in the end.

Gibson hit .500 in Surrey, going 7-for-14 with four RBI and one home run.

The loss was the first for Team USA during the summer as the Eagles had captured the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City and began the Canadian Open with a 7-0 record.

Next up for Team USA is the 2012 ISF XIII Women's World Fastpitch Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon in Canada. That event starts on July 13 with USA playing Venezuela at 3 p.m. ET. Here is the schedule: ISF XIII Women's World Fastpitch Championship.
