Team USA remained undefeated in the tournament and locked up the No. 1 overall seed for the playoff portion. The Americans led from start to finish and held on after Canada started to rally in the fourth inning.
Chavanne was 1-for-2 with three runs, three stolen bases and one walk. Gibson was 1-for-4 with a solo homer in the sixth which extended her Team USA hitting streak to eight games this summer.
Sarah Nevins earned the win after throwing five frames with three strikeouts and there earned runs allowed. Cheridan Hawkins threw one relief inning with two runs allowed (one earned). Valerie Arioto threw two-thirds of an inning in the seventh.
Marina Demore took the loss for Canada after allowing five earned runs over 2.1 frames.
Team USA took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Michelle Moultrie and Chavanne hit back-to-back singles to open the inning. Moultrie scored from third on an RBI fielder's choice by Amanda Chidester with one out. Chavanne and Chidester scored on Nicole Hudson's two-run single with two outs.
Chavanne was hit by a pitch to start the third inning and later scored on an RBI single by Arioto. Hudson added an RBI double to plate Chidester and extend Team USA's lead to 5-0.
Canada got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. With one out, Caitlin Lever hit an RBI single to score Jen Yee. Jennifer Gilbert scored on a two-out wild pitch to pull the Canadians to within 5-2.
The Red, White and Blue responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth. Chavanne drew a one-out walk on seven pitches and stole second base. Two batters later Chidester drove her in with an RBI single.
Victoria Hayward's RBI single in the top of the sixth plated Larissa Franklin and brought Canada to within three runs once again, 6-3.
Team USA's Lindsey Ziegenhirt hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Canada pulled to within 7-5 in the top of the sixth when Victoria Rumpf hit a two-RBI double, scoring Natalie Wideman and Erika Polidori.
Gibson hit a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the sixth to round out the scoring.
Team USA is scheduled to play the winner of today's Canada-Venezuela game at 11:30 p.m. ET.
