IRVINE, Calif. -- Incoming Tennessee softball players Megan Geer and Taylor Koenig continue to show the championship mettle that should make them fit in perfectly with the Orange and White.
On Saturday, Geer and Koenig helped So Cal Athletics 18U Gold win its fourth consecutive Premier Girls Fastpitch 18U Premier Division national championship with a 3-2 win over Team Mizuno at Bill Barber Park.
Geer and Koenig will join Tennessee in the 2013-14 academic year. Both are proven power hitters who will enhance a potent UT squad that averaged 6.64 runs per game (tied for sixth in the nation) and finished as the national runner-up in 2013.
"These are two of the best athletes we have ever recruited," Tennessee softball co-head coach Ralph Weekly said. "Both have home run power. Megan Geer is a speedy second baseman and outfielder who hits a lot of long balls and bats third for the So Cal Athletics. Taylor Koenig is a third baseman very much like UT alum and All-American Tonya Callahan. She has legitimate power and soft hands at third base. We are very proud of both of their accomplishments."
