SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico --Team USA took a 10-1 win over host Puerto Rico late Wednesday night to remain undefeated in the Mayor's Cup.
Rain in San Juan forced a rescheduling of games. Team USA will face Cuba today at 1:30 p.m. ET in a game that was originally scheduled for Wednesday.
Tennessee's Lauren Gibson and Raven Chavanne contributed to the American's offensive explosion. Gibson scored a run and drew a walk. Chavanne was 1 for-3. Taylor Hoagland led the way offensively for Team USA with six RBIs and two triples.
Sara Nevins earned the win for Team USA after striking out four and allowing one earned run in three innings. Aimee Creger struck out two over two scoreless relief innings.
Rivera Courtney took the loss for Puerto Rico after issuing six earned runs in three frames. Karla Claudio gave up four more earned runs in one relief inning.
Team USA took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Gibson drew a walk and Valerie Arioto plated her with an RBI single.
The Americans scored seven on five hits and three walks in the bottom of the seventh to take a commanding 8-0 lead. Destinee Martinez plated Taylor Thom with an RBI single. Three batters later, Amanda Chidester hit a two-RBI single to right field. After Arioto was walked to load the bases for the second time in the inning, Hoagland belted a three-run triple and scored on a bad throw from center field.
Puerto Rico scored its lone run in the top of the third when Claudio hit an RBI triple off Nevins to score Monica Santos.
Team USA added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hoagland hit another RBI triple and scored on an errant throw from center field once again.
