Chavanne Helps USA Crush Colombia, 12-0(4)

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Tennessee's Raven Chavanne had two hits and two RBIs as the USA Softball Women's National Team crushed Colombia, 12-0, in four innings on Tuesday in the Pan American Games Qualifier.

Chavanne went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and UT teammate Lauren Gibson drew a walk as Team USA outhit Colombia, 11-1, in a rout. Michelle Moultrie had the biggest day of any USA player, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs.

Team USA continues Pool 1 play on Wednesday against Argentina at 9 a.m.

Aimee Creger three four shutout innings with seven strikeouts and just one hit allowed.

Luz Perez took the loss for Colombia after allowing two earned runs over 1.1 innings and walking four. Vianys Garcia allowed seven runs (three earned) in one relief inning, Darlys Perez issued three earned runs over 1.1 innings and Alysia Camelo recorded one out in the fourth.

Team USA took a 4-0 lead in the second inning. With one out, Nicole Hudson, Taylor Thom and Destinee Martinez drew back-to-back-to back walks to load the bases. After a pitching changed, Rhea Taylor hit into a fielder's choice and Hudson scored to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead. Moultrie followed with a two-RBI triple and Chavanne plated Moultrie from third with an RBI single.

The Americans poured on five more runs in the third inning. Thom hit an RBI triple with one out to score Hudson and extend the U.S. lead to 5-0. Thom scored in the next at-bat following an error in left field. Two batters later, Moultrie clubbed another two-RBI triple. Chavanne plated Moultrie once again with an RBI single.

The Red, White and Blue scored three more in the top of the fourth. Hudson hit an RBI double with one out and two batters later, Thom scored on a fielder's choice. For the third straight inning, Moultrie stepped in the box and delivered an RBI hit - this time a single that scored Martinez and pushed Team USA's lead to 12-0.
