HAARLEM, Netherlands --Tennessee alums Raven Chavanne and Lauren Gibson each had a hit and a run on Saturday in the USA Softball Women's National Team's 7-0 victory over Botswana in the round-robin portion of the ISF XIV World Championship.
The U.S. no-hit Botswana and scored one run in the first, three in the second, four in the fourth and one in the fifth to win by international run rule. Chavanne reached on an error and scored in the first inning and hit an RBI single to the left side to plate Taylor Hoagland in the second inning, pushing Team USA's lead to 4-0. Gibson also hit a single and scored the third run of the game in the second inning.
Jaclyn Traina, Jolene Henderson and Sara Nevins combined for 11 strikeouts and five no-hit frames to keep Botswana's batters in check.
The win moves the Americans to 2-0 in the tournament and they will next face Chinese Taipei on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. ET. The U.S. previously faced Chinese Taipei on July 12, taking a 14-0 win in the World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, Calif.
