That game started at 10 p.m. local time on Tuesday before rain put a stop to it with the U.S. up 4-0 and took out the stadium lights. Play resumed Wednesday morning with Team USA withstanding a charge from the Australians. Gibson, who scored two runs in the win, hit a solo home run in the second inning to give the U.S. the lead.
Later in the day on Wednesday, the U.S. shut down the Dominican Republic, 10-0, in four frames. Chavanne had a hit and a walk in the win and Gibson drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk in the second inning.
