KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee softball fans will get their first glimpse of the 2013 squad this weekend when the Lady Vols conclude 2012 fall play with the Tennessee Fall Classic at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. UT will play in four of the nine games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, Tennessee will play Chattanooga State at 11:45 a.m. and Lee at 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Lady Vols face Chipola at 12:15 p.m. and Milligan at 4:45 p.m. Admission is free for all games this weekend.
Tennessee went 4-0 in four road games last weekend. UT defeated Tennessee Tech, 4-2, on Oct. 5 in Cookeville, Tenn. In the Topper Fall Classic in Bowling Green, Ky., the team took a 6-2 win over Evansville and a 14-4 victory over Western Kentucky on Oct. 6 and a 14-6 win over Eastern Kentucky on Oct. 7. Junior Melissa Davin has enjoyed had the best fall so far, going 10-of-16 in the batter's box with seven RBIs.
Tennessee is coming off an outstanding 2012 season. UT went to the Women's College World series for the fifth time in eight years and posted a 52-14 record. Its .788 win percentage ranked eighth in the nation and the Lady Vols' .982 fielding percentage was the best mark among all NCAA Division I teams. The UT pitchers also combined for the 11th-best ERA (1.58) in the country in 2012.
The Lady Vols return all four of their 2012 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Americans in Lauren Gibson, Ellen Renfroe, Raven Chavanne and Madison Shipman as well as All-SEC selections Davin and Kat Dotson.
