ATHENS, Ga. - Junior Lauren LeRoy picked up third place from the three-meter at the Georgia Diving Invitational and Shootout in Athens, Ga., this afternoon with a score of 272.10. LeRoy earned top honors in the preliminaries with 295.80 points, thus marking her sixth NCAA Zone qualifying score of the season.
"Lauren [LeRoy] competed extremely well in the preliminaries," Lady Vol Head Diving Coach Dave Parrington said. "She was not super sharp, but that is to be expected given the amount of time we have been away from competition.
"The final was a little off of her game, but she was able to finish in the top three against some quality competition, which is encouraging."
Senior Brittany Fulmer barely missed the finals cut with a score of 215.55 to put her in 14th place. Sophomore Staley McCartney and junior Vicky Linnell were 16th and 17th with 198.15 and 194.55 points, respectively.
The three-day competition features divers from 12 schools, six of which have swimming and diving teams ranked in the top-25 poll by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Today's three-meter competition included 28 entrants.
The meet will continue tomorrow morning with the preliminaries for the one-meter at 11 am. The top 12 will advance to a 12:45 p.m. final. Each evening the top six divers from the finals compete in a diving shootout to begin at 6 p.m. Platform diving is slated for an 11 a.m. start on Friday.
