GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships got underway Friday with the three-meter diving competition. Lauren LeRoy and Brittany Fulmer finished in 19th and 21st place, respectively.
"The results today were not what I was expecting," Diving Coach Dave Parrington said. "I knew it was going to be tough for them to make the finals but I expected them to notch some team points. Brittany had some good board work and looked good in the air. We just need to find a way to get her down a little bit better in the water.
"Lauren started out extremely shaky and put herself into too big of a hole to get out of, but I am encouraged the way she bounced back and that should bode well for tomorrow. Both girls gave their best effort today and maybe trying too hard hurt them, but we'll come back tomorrow and give it our best shot again."
The freshman tallied 403.30 points on her 11 dives, narrowly missing out on scoring for the Big Orange, as she was just a little more than 13 points out of 16th place. Fulmer finished with a final mark of 371.15 which is her season-best score in the event and just misses her career high of 372.65.
Parrington's charges will be back in action on Saturday for the one-meter competition. Prelims will begin at 4 p.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m. The final day of competition on Sunday will allow the divers to showcase their abilities from the platform. Prelims start at 10:30 a.m. while the finals start at 3 p.m. Following the conclusion of the diving championships, there will be a two-day break before the swimming portion of the league meet begins on Wednesday.
