GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships continued Saturday afternoon with the one-meter diving competition. Brittany Fulmer and Lauren LeRoy finished in 17th and 18th place, respectively.
"I'm quite pleased with Brittany's performance," Diving Coach Dave Parrington said. "She finished 17th which is just about a point and a half out of team scoring and it's a positive she was in that situation. She dove well and kept her composure. There were a few little things here and there that didn't quite come out the way I expected and that was the difference between scoring and not scoring."
Fulmer finished with a total of 218.95 points, which was less than two points behind Georgia's Brooke Bassham who claimed 16th. While the sophomore did not score for the Big Orange, she did improve on her point total (200.80) and finish (25th) from last year's SEC Championships.
Meanwhile, the Wisconsin native fought back from a near miss on her first dive to almost notch points for the Orange and White. LeRoy tallied 216.95 points in her six di ves, finishing narrowly behind Fulmer and Bassham.
"She came back valiantly after a rough start and really dove how I expected her to dive from that point on," Parrington said. "I was really happy with her spunk and her positive attitude. She realizes she can dive with these ladies in this event so we'll take that as a positive heading into the NCAA Zone Meet."
LeRoy will be back in action on Sunday for the final day of competition with the platform diving event. Prelims start at 10:30 a.m., while the finals begin at 3 p.m. Following the conclusion of the diving championships, there will be a two-day break before the swimming portion of the league meet begins on Wednesday.
