ATHENS, Ga. - In her final event as a Lady Vol, senior diver Jill Pierce advanced to the platform finals and finished 12th in the event on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
A Knoxville native, Pierce tallied a combined total of 440.65, scoring 219.20 in the finals after earning a spot in the 12-person final field with a preliminary round total of 221.45.
"One of the highlights of Jill's career was today by her making the finals of the platform competition," Tennessee Head Diving Coach Dave Parrington said. "It was a great way for her to end her career and I'm really proud of her for that."
Also advancing to the finals was junior Gabrielle Trudeau, who finished ninth with a score of 478.10. In the prelims Trudeau recorded a score of 233.60, and then had a total of 244.50 in the finals round.
"Gaby dove solid, not great, but solid," Parrington said. "She put forth a valiant effort in a very good field,"
Trudeau advanced to the finals in all three events at the Zone B Championships but did not earn a priority spot to be one of the top-eight divers who will advance to the NCAA Championships.
However, the Lady Vols do have 11 swimmers making the trip to Austin, Texas, to compete in the national meet held at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the Campus of the University of Texas over March 17-19.
Miami's Brittany Viola won the tower event after notching a combined score of 656.40 in a highly competitive field.
