KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - After exceptional performances at the Georgia Diving Invitational and Shootout (Jan. 3-5) and at Northwestern (Jan. 6), junior Lauren LeRoy was named the Southeastern Conference Female Diver of the Week, announced by the conference office today. This is her first of such awards for the Oshkosh, Wis., native. Earlier this season, she was named Lady Vol Athlete of the Week by the media relations staff on Oct. 23.
LeRoy placed first in the preliminaries from both the one- and three-meter boards, the one-meter finals and one-meter shootout at the Georgia Diving Invitational and Shootout in Athens, Ga. She earned 295.80 points in the three-meter prelims before a score of 272.10 placed her in third in the finals. The junior tallied 259.15 points to qualify for the finals of the one-meter, then 279.60 to take the title. That evening, she survived the five knock-out rounds to claim the one-meter shootout. Day three of the contest saw LeRoy take sixth from the platform (196.05), her highest placement from that height so far this year.
Following three straight days of competition, the diving squad headed to Evanston, Ill., to join the swimming team in a dual meet with Northwestern. The Lady Vols downed the Wildcats, 210-139, with LeRoy sweeping the diving events. She claimed first from the one-meter board with 258.30 point-performance and three-meter with a 297.225 total. The performance marks the third time this season she swept both events at the same meet.
LeRoy and the rest of the No. 16 Lady Vols will return to the water on Jan. 20 when they welcome No. 6 Georgia to Knoxville.
