KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Two members of the Tennessee diving team have been selected to represent the United States at the upcoming Canada Cup, as Lady Vol redshirt sophomore Tori Lamp and Vol senior Ryan Helms and will travel to Montreal, Quebec as members of Team USA.
Slated to occur over May 3-6, the Canada Cup will be the second stop during the 2012 FINA Grand Prix, which takes place in six difference cities between February and June. Lamp will be in action during the women's 10-meter platform competition, while Helms will compete on the men's 3-meter boards,
Lamp is no stranger to the Canada Cup, participating in the meet as a member of Team USA in 2009 and advancing to the semifinals. She earned the right to represent the U.S. after placing second on the platform at the 2009 USA Diving Spring National Championships.
Through seven meets this season, Lamp has three victories and secured a spot in the upcoming Olympic Trials after placing fifth on the towers at the USA Diving Winter Nationals. Last season the Knoxville product went a perfect 4-4 in diving events before her season was cut short due to injury.
This season Helms holds the highest marks on both the 1- and 3-meter boards for the Vols, winning the 1-meter competition in four of six meets this season. He also qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 3-meter competition by making the finals at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in December.
A native of Moultrie, Ga., Helms was an Honorable Mention All-American in 2009 and 2011, along with owning two silvers and a pair of bronze medals from the SEC Championships.
