KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Four home meets, including a clash with Florida on Jan. 30 at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center, highlight the Lady Vol swimming and diving team's 2009-10 schedule.

Head coach Matt Kredich, beginning his fifth season, along with assistant Jen Arndt and diving coach Dave Parrington, will field an experienced squad through a challenging and competitive schedule, culminating at the 2010 NCAA Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., in March.

"We're really excited because this year's schedule may be the toughest we've ever had from beginning to end," Kredich said. "We see ourselves doing some extraordinary things this season, and we put this schedule together as part of that vision.

"We'll swim five of the top 22 teams from NCAAs last year, with four of those meets on the road. These meets will give us all kinds of challenges and opportunities to prepare ourselves to continue to compete for the top spots in February and March at the SEC and NCAA Championships."

The Big Orange will be led by nine upperclassmen and seven returning All-Americans, including rising senior Michele King and rising sophomore Jenny Connolly, who each collected five All-America certificates at the NCAA Championships in 2009.

King and fellow rising senior Jamie Saffer each grabbed SEC individual titles last season, as well. Saffer and rising juniors Tricia Weaner and Morgan Farrell also earned All-America accolades in 2009, while Aleksa Akerfelds, also a rising junior, earned All-America honors in 2008.

On the boards, Gabrielle Trudeau and Jodie McGroarty return after having outstanding debut seasons for the Orange and White. Trudeau earned All-America honors on the platform, while McGroarty had a pair of top-four placements at the SEC Championships.

"I look forward to seeing how Jodie and Gabbi respond with a year under their respective belts," Parrington said. "I am pleased with the balance and strength of our 2009-10 schedule. From a diving standpoint, we will travel to SEC Championships-host Georgia twice before the conference meet which will help us immensely in our preparation."

Tennessee opens the season on Oct. 15 at Louisville. The Lady Vols have opened the season with a win over the Cardinals the past four years, including a 168-132 triumph in 2008.

Two days after facing Louisville, UT will travel to Baton Rouge, La., on Oct. 17 to square off against LSU for the first time in the regular season in five seasons.

The Orange and White will welcome Kentucky to the AJIAC for the home-opener on Oct. 30, before hosting South Carolina, a week later on Nov. 6.

From Nov. 19-21, Tennessee will host the UT Invitational - the Lady Vols last competition before the New Year.

Parrington will take his diving squad to Georgia's Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga., to open 2010 from Jan.3-5, while the swimmers will jump back in the pool against Virginia on Jan. 9 in Charlottesville, Va.

Tennessee caps the regular season against its toughest opponents - and SEC rivals - Georgia and Florida, on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30, respectively.

The Lady Vols will travel to Athens to match-up with the national meet runner-up Bulldogs, before hosting the 2009 SEC Champion Gators.

UT will take another trip to Athens from Feb. 17-20, as Georgia hosts the 2010 SEC Championships.

The Lady Vols will close the season at the 2010 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships from March 18-20 in West Lafayette, Ind., where they will look to finish in the top-15 for a UT-record fifth consecutive season.
