IRVINE, Calif. - Former Lady Vol standout Christine Magnuson and rising sophomore Breanna Folk each made it to the final rounds of their respective events on Thursday at the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships.
Magnuson, who won her third consecutive100m fly national title on Tuesday, captured another top honor by finishing seventh in the 50m free A final by touching in at 25.45. She made the A final by swimming the sixth fastest time of 25.61 in prelims at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.
Folk was victorious in the 100m breast C final with a time of 1:09.49, placing her 17th overall. Her time was .15 seconds better than Andrea Kropp, who was the second fastest in the field. She qualified for the 100m breast C final by touching in at 1:10.61 in the prelims, which was the 20th fastest time.
Incoming freshman Alexandria Frasier and rising junior Jenny Connolly also competed in the 50m free. In the "splash-and-dash," Frasier captured 70th with a time of 26.89 and Connolly touched in at 27:36 to place 101st.
Former Lady Vol Alex Barsanti just missed the 100m breast C final cut by .79 seconds and finished 31st with a time of 1:11.84. Rising junior Kirstyn Colonias swam a time of 1:13.66 in the event to grab 73rd.
In the 400 IM prelims, rising senior Aleksa Akersfelds finished 41st with a mark of 4:54.50, while rising junior Tori Richmond's time of 5:08.03 earned her 100th.
On day four, Connolly and rising sophomore Kelsey Floyd will compete in the 200m butterfly. Rising seniors Tricia Weaner and Morgan Farrell are slated to take part in the 200m backstroke. Aleksa Akerfelds, a rising senior, will battle in the 800m free.
