KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee freshman Michele King has been named to the USA National Team that will compete in the 2007 Pan American Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The York, Pa., native qualified for the squad after impressive performances in both the 50m and 100m freestyle events at the 2006 ConocoPhillips Nationals in August. King's times of 25.90 in the 50m and 56.19 in the 100m helped her claim a spot on the 21-woman national team.
The freshman was ranked the No. 1 high school swimmer in the country in the 50y and 100y freestyle and took fifth in the 50y at the 2005 World Championship Trials. While at Spring Grove High School (York, Pa.), King took home several accolades including the 2005 Pennsylvania State Swimmer of the Year honor and district championships in the 50y and 100y free in both 2004 and 2005. She also holds the state records in both those events.
King will represent the United States in the 100 freestyle and 4X100 freestyle relay next July in Brazil.
