KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee freshman Kelsey Floyd was tabbed the SEC Female Swimming and Diving Freshman of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday.
Floyd, a native of Lexington, Ky., won three events and added a runner-up finish in the Lady Vols' 193-103 home-opening victory over Kentucky last Friday.
Providing versatility and endurance for the Big Orange at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center, Floyd captured first in the 1000y free right after swimming a leg on the winning 200y medley relay that earned a B-cut and a season-best time (1:42.23). She also finished first in the 200y back and second in the 100y back in her first dual meet ever at the AJIAC.
Her efforts set the tone for Tennessee, as it won 12 of 16 events against the Wildcats.
In her first season at Rocky Top, Floyd ranks second on UT in four events: 100y fly (55.70), 200y free (1:51.96), 1000y free (10:13.28) and 200y back (2:00.83). She has 11 top-three finishes in three meets this season.
Floyd and the Lady Vol swimming and diving team will look to remain undefeated in the SEC this Friday at the AJIAC when South Carolina comes to Knoxville for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
