KNOXVILLE -- The No. 17 University of Tennessee Lady Vol swimming and diving team will host its first home meet on Saturday when No. 20 Kentucky comes to Knoxville for a 1 p.m. dual. The combined men's and women's event will begin at 1 p.m. in the Student Aquatic Center and will be the first SEC contest for the Lady Vols. "After this past weekend at SMU, we realized we had some things to sharpen up before Kentucky," said head coach Dan Colella. "But, we're ready for Saturday and this SEC meet. We're looking forward to some great races and to our first home event."
The Lady Vols are currently 2-0 overall in dual meet competition and hold a 15-1 all-time record against the Wildcats. Last year, Tennessee opened its season in Lexington, Ky., and came away with a 140-103 victory. However, they finished behind UK at the SEC Championships.
Kentucky is coming off a 132-109 win at Indiana last weekend. They are currently 2-0 on the season with a victory against Louisville to start the season.
Last weekend, nine Lady Vols traveled to one of the country's elite meets, the SMU Classic. Despite finishing in sixth place, Tennessee came away with several strong performances, including second and third place marks by junior Lizzy Flynt in the diving events.
Following the dual versus Kentucky, UT will take a week to prepare for the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. The meet will be the team's second invite on the schedule and will run Nov. 19-21.
