KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - After finishing in the top four of 10 different events at the Tennessee Swimming Invitational last weekend, Lady Vol freshman Kelsey Floyd picked up her third SEC Female Freshman Swimmer of the Week award of the season on Tuesday.
Competing at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center from Thursday through Saturday, Floyd swam in a team-best 19 races, and captured first in the 200y back with a season-best and NCAA `B' cut performance of 1:58.12.
The Lexington, Ky., native also snagged a `B' cut en route to placing third in the 100y back (55.29), and was a member of the runner-up 200y medley (1:41.04) and 400y free (3:23.43) relays that also earned `B' cuts and season bests.
Additionally, she placed second as a member of the 200y free relay and third on the 400y medley and 800 free relays, while finishing third in the 200y free and 100y back and fourth in both fly events.
Overall, the rookie notched five individual season-best swims and had a part in six total `B' cut performances.
Floyd's efforts led Tennessee to a third-place finish in its home meet, and her feats throughout the season have helped give the Lady Vols a 3-1 dual meet record and a No. 13 national ranking.
Through five competitions this season, she ranks first on the Lady Vols in the 200y free, 200y fly and 200y back, and is a member of every one of UT's top relays. The versatile Floyd also ranks second on the Lady Vols in the 500y free, 1000y free, 100y fly and 100y back.
She previously won her first two SEC FOW honors after leading Tennessee to wins over Kentucky (Oct. 31) and South Carolina (Nov. 6).
Floyd's next shot to add a fourth SEC award will come on Jan. 9, when the Lady Vols travel to Charlottesville, Va., for a dual meet with Virginia.
