UT Records 6 Wins on Day 2 of UM Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team brought home six victories on day two of the Michigan Invitational, held at the UM Varsity Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Big Orange captured four of six singles bouts from No. 23 Washington and split four doubles contests with No. 16 Georgia Tech.

Freshman Brynn Boren, the No. 20-rated player in the ITA singles rankings defeated No. 55 Venise Chan of UW in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.

Sophomore Kata Szekely took down Washington's Andjela Nemcevic in a grueling three-set match, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4). Freshmen Millie Nichols and Whitney Wofford both brought home victories at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

Natalie Pluskota and Brynn Boren were dominant at No. 1 doubles, defeating Georgia Tech's Carolina Lilley and Sasha Krupina, 8-1. Lilley and Krupina are No. 66 in the ITA doubles rankings.

Rosalía Alda moved into sole possession of ninth place in school history with her 91st doubles victory. She and Nichols, the ninth-ranked duo in the country, toppled No. 36 Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn, 8-6.

Boren is second in the overall singles standings with 15 points, trailing only Denise Muresan of Michigan. Pluskota is fourth with eight points and Wofford and Nichols are tied for fifth with seven.

Alda and Nichols are second in doubles with 14 points, while Pluskota and Boren are tied for sixth with eight.

UT will wrap up the tournament portion of its schedule tomorrow with doubles matches against Washington at 1 p.m., immediately followed by singles matches against the host Wolverines. Live scoring and video will be available on www.MGoBlue.com tomorrow.
