WTennis Earns 4-3 Comeback Win Over #28 UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. - In a back-and-forth match, the University of Tennessee women's tennis team came out on top upsetting No. 28 Kentucky on their home turf Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Vols (8-9, 2-5 SEC) rallied back from 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 deficits on the day to earn the win over the Wildcats (14-5, 4-3) handing them just their second loss at home this season.

Tiffany Tavares clinched the match winner for the Lady Vols for the second time in as many weeks. The Las Vegas native, up 1-0 in her match, but down 3-5 in set No. 2, rallied off four straight points to seal the victory for Tennessee.

Kentucky took a 1-0 lead with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. Eve Repic and Laurence Guevremont fell 8-3 to Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi while Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams, in their first SEC match together fell 8-4 on court one to No. 56 CeCe Witten and Caitlin McGraw.

In singles action, Brittany Lindl tied things up for Tennessee with a quick 6-2, 6-0 victory on court four over Kirsten Lewis. But the Wildcats regained a 2-1 lead as Sutjiadi defeated Henderson 6-2, 6-3 on court two.

 

 

Repic, ranked No. 102 in the country, rallied off the final two points in the first set and advanced on to a solid 6-4, 6-3 win on court one over No. 54 Ravita to tie things up at two-all.

Kentucky regained the lead as Kelsey Dieters came back on court three to earn a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Guevremont but the Lady Vols did not stop competing.

After McGraw forced a third set at No. 5 singles against Victoria Olivarez, the Virginia Beach, Va. native came out swinging in the third set to rally off a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory tying the match up at three-all.

In the final match started on the day Tavares jumped out to a 6-3 first set win. In set No. 2 Tavares fell behind 1-2, regained a 3-2 lead and was close to dropping the set behind 3-5. But she composed herself and rallied off four straight points to clinch the set and the match for the Lady Vols.

The Lady Vols will return to action Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. when they return to the Goodfriend Tennis Center to face Missouri.
