URBANA, Ill. - The No. 4 seeded University of Tennessee women's tennis duo of Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely easily dispatched their opponents from Akron 6-0, 6-1 in the First Round of the NCAA Doubles Championship Thursday.
Boren and Szekely, who earned their 39th match of the season with the win will advance to face Lorraine Guillermo and Khunpak Issara of Pepperdine in the Round of 16 on Friday.
"We played a good match today and are looking forward to another good match tomorrow," said co-head coach Mike Patrick. "There have been tough conditions with the wind so we will have to be at our best tomorrow to keep advancing in the tournament."
The 39 matches won this season ranks in a tie for sixth all-time on the UT Single Season Doubles Wins list with Alison Ojeda who achieved the feat in 2001.
Earlier in the day, Szekely took part in the Second Round of the NCAA Singles tournament where she faced Jacqueline Cako of Arizona State. Despite falling in the first set 6-0, the senior battled back to earn a 6-4 second set before ultimately falling 6-1 in the third to end her NCAA Singles run.
Kata Szekely finishes her Lady Vols singles career with an 89-34 record, 13th all-time in the UT Record Book.
