STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 13-ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team saw both of its individuals eliminated from the 2011 NCAA Singles Championships in a pair of first round matchups Wednesday at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
Today's matches were delayed nearly two hours due to torrential rain in the Stanford area. Once the weather subsided, junior Natalie Pluskota fell, 6-1, 6-1, to No. 3 overall seed Hilary Barte of Stanford.
Brynn Boren was initially scheduled to play No. 13 Stacie Ahn of Stanford, but Ahn was scratched from the draw with an injury. Instead, Boren faced off with No. 63-rated Leslie Hureau of Indiana.
Boren took the first set, 6-2. Hureau battled back with a 6-3 win of the second set to force a decisive third frame. Both players went back-and-forth, eventually reaching a score of 6-6, which forced a tiebreaker.
Hureau took a 7-5 victory in the tiebreaker to advance to the second round.
Boren and Pluskota will be in action in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championships on Thursday as they take on the No. 24 duo of Noelle Hickey and McCall Jones of UCLA. Fellow Lady Vols Rosalía Alda and Millie Nichols will also compete in tomorrow's action, drawing the No. 1 seed in the doubles tournament, Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova of Cal.
Times for those matches have not yet been released. Live video will be available at www.GoStanford.com.
