STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team had two doubles teams compete in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Doubles Championships, with one advancing to the second round with a victory on Thursday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

The No. 19-rated tandem of Natalie Pluskota and Brynn Boren earned a 6-2, 7-6 (4) win over 24th-rated McCall Jones and Noelle Hickey of UCLA.

After cruising to a first-set win, Pluskota and Boren appeared to be well on their way to the next round, opening up the second frame with a 3-0 lead. However, Hickey and Jones battled back to force a tiebreaker. Pluskota and Boren were up to the challenge and avoided a third set, taking the tiebreaker, 7-4.

They advance to face the No. 6-ranked tandem of Josipa Bek and Keri Wong of Clemson in a second round matchup. Bek and Wong advanced courtesy of a three-set win over Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie of Ole Miss.

The Big Orange duo of Rosalía Alda and Millie Nichols also competed on Thursday, falling to the tournament's top overall seed, Mari Andersson and Jana Juricova of Cal, 6-3, 6-2.

The loss concludes Alda's career in Orange and White. She finishes fifth all-time in school history with 110 doubles victories.

The time for Boren and Pluskota's second round matchup has yet to be determined. Live video of the match will be available at
