NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee women's tennis team collected five victories on the final day of the Southeastern Conference Coaches Tournament at Vanderbilt University's Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Tennis Center in Nashville.

"This was a really good way to start the season," UT Co-Head Coach Mike Patrick said. "I was excited to see our freshman win both her doubles and singles flights, and our other players secured some good wins as well."

Highlighting the day was freshman Kata Szekely's victory to win the finals of Flight Seven. The Hungary native dropped only four games to LSU's Kaitlin Burns, en route to a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Szekely was a perfect 6-0 in her collegiate debut, teaming with junior Maria Sorbello in doubles for three of those victories.

Sophomore Katie Lee and junior Rosalía Alda also emerged victorious in Flight Eight and Flight Two matches, respectively. Lee competed in the Flight Eight consolation finals against Megan Gornet of Vanderbilt, winning 6-1, 6-3. Alda easily took the first set 6-0 against Mississippi State's Radka Ferancova. The second set, however, would have to be settled by a tiebreaker, with Alda ultimately prevailing, 7-6 (7).

Senior Zsófia Zubor faced off against Auburn's Paulina Schippers in the last match of the day. It was a close match, but Zubor would win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Junior Jennifer Meredith battled hard but couldn't overcome Vanderbilt's Chelsea Preeg, dropping the match, 6-3, 6-4. Sorbello won her Flight Three finals by default over Olesya Tsigvintseva of MSU.

The Lady Vols resume their fall schedule at the Furman Fall Classic Sept. 25-27 in Greenville, S.C.

"Although we have a laundry list of stuff to work on before we head to Furman, we finished on a winning note and it doesn't get much better than that," summed up Patrick.
