The University of Tennessee women's tennis team started out day two of the 2005 St. Mary's Classic strong as five of the six players won their first singles match-ups of the day. Due to Friday's wet weather, today's competition consisted of the first and second rounds of singles play.
Lady Vol junior Vicky Jones (Tyne & Wear, U.K.) started off singles flight one action against Wake Forest's Ashlee Davis. Davis proved to be too much for Jones as the Tennessee player dropped its first match 0-6 and 6-7. In round two action for Jones, she dropped her second match of the day to Hala Sufi of Purdue, 2-6 and 2-6.
In the second flight of singles action, junior Blakeley Griffith (Middleburg, Va.) defeated first-round opponent Brooke Beier of Purdue 7-6 and 6-1. Another Lady Vol newcomer Samantha Orlin (Miami, Fla.) made her collegiate debut in fine fashion with a pair of wins. Orlin advances to Sunday's final sixth flight match-up against Wake Forest's Blakely Offutt.
