Tournament Results and Draws

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The University of Tennessee women's tennis team had a very strong showing on day one of the 24th annual Furman Fall Classic, held Friday at the Mickel Tennis Center.

Two UT doubles pairs advanced all the way to the finals in the both of the top doubles flights. In flight one, Rosalía Alda and Millie Nichols started the day off by topping SEC rivals Anya Morgina and Miljana Jocic of South Carolina, 8-5. Alda and Nichols then combined to topple the No. 44-ranked doubles duo in the nation, North Carolina's Shinann Featherston and Lauren McHale, 8-4.

In the second flight, senior Jennifer Meredith was sharp in her first action of her final season at Rocky Top, teaming up with freshman Whitney Wofford to defeat a pair of ACC foes en route to reaching the finals.

In singles action, freshman Brynn Boren continued the solid start to her career, defeating No. 64 Katie Rybakova of Florida State, 0-6, 6-2, 7-5. Boren will face North Carolina's Zoe DeBruycker in the semifinals.

Not to be outdone, Alda also bested a ranked opponent in her flight two singles quarterfinal, beating No. 84 Jelena Durisic of UNC, 6-3, 6-4.

In flight three, Nichols dropped a hard-fought contest to Vanderbilt's Alex Leatu, 6-2, 7-6 (6), while Wofford fell to Jocic in straight sets in flight four.

Freshman Kayla McMurry lost to North Carolina's Jennifer Stone, 6-2, 6-2 in flight six.

Because of rain in the forecast on Sunday, two rounds of singles will be played tomorrow, with the doubles finals taking place Sunday morning. Play gets underway at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Results will be available on UTLadyVols.com shortly after competition.
