GREENVILLE, S.C. - The University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team concluded play at the 2010 Furman Fall Classic by bringing home the doubles championship in the top flight at the Mickel Tennis Center on Sunday morning.
Senior Rosalía Alda and freshman Millie Nichols teamed up to knock off Vanderbilt's Rachael Dillon and Alex Leatu, 9-7.
The win caps an impressive weekend for the Big Orange duo, who went 3-0 including an impressive win over No. 44-ranked Shinann Featherston and Lauren McHale of North Carolina. This also marks the second straight year that a Lady Vol doubles team has captured the top doubles flight at the Furman Fall Classic. Last year, it was Caitlin Whoriskey and Natalie Pluskota who brought home the honors.
Overall, Tennessee went 5-1 in doubles play and also brought home third place in each of the top two singles flights.
Rosalía Alda and Brynn Boren will be in action at the ITA/Riviera Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. starting Oct. 5. The rest of the team is off until the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, held in Knoxville from Oct. 14-18.
