The University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team continued play at the Women's College Tennis Invitational at the National Tennis Center on Sunday, recording a combined 3-2 mark in singles play and a 4-1 mark in doubles action.
Freshman Bryce Marable (Darien, Ill. / Hinsdale South H.S.) won her singles match of the day, topping Iliana Pacheco of Arkansas in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore Vicky Jones (Tyne & Wear, U.K. / South Tyneside College) also was victorious in her singles match versus Eva Wang of Harvard, splitting the two sets, 3-6, 6-4, before prevailing in the super-tiebreaker by a 10-4 score.
Junior Sabita Maharaj (Gainesville, Fla. / Buchholz H.S.) defeated Lauren Walker of Texas A&M, 6-1, 6-2.
Sophomore Blakeley Griffith (Middleburg, Va. / Loudoun County H.S.) fell to Melissa Anderson of Harvard, 6-2, 6-2, while freshman Daron Moore (North Hollywood, Calif. / Campbell H.S.) also fell short, losing to Danielle Spadelmann of North Carolina State, 3-6, 6-1, (10-6).
Doubles action saw Marable and Schaub win twice, topping Shelah Chao and Yulia Rivelis of Pennsylvania and Melissa Cornett and Vlatka Jovanic of Arkansas, both by identical 8-4 counts.
Griffith and Jones topped Daisy Ames and Alex Arlak of Brown, 8-4, before falling to Jenna Long and Sara Anundsen of North Carolina, 8-0.
Maharaj and Moore won their lone doubles match of the day, topping Spadelmann and Augustina Arechavaleta of North Carolina State, 8-2.
