GREENVILLE, S.C. - Two Lady Vol doubles teams won their flights and three singles players advanced to the finals of their own as the University of Tennessee women's tennis team concluded another successful day at the Furman Fall Classic.

"We had a number of exciting matches today," UT co-head coach Mike Patrick said. "Our doubles teams played their guts out. We have done very well against a number of quality opponents this weekend and have learned a lot from the matches that we lost."

The second day of competition got off to a great start as junior Ghizela Schutte and freshman Connor Vogel teamed up to squeeze out a 9-8 victory over Vanderbilt's pairing of Taka Bertrand and Catherine Newman for the flight two title. The team of senior Blakeley Griffith and freshman Zsofia Zubor made it two doubles championships for the Lady Vols as they took out the duo of Laura Ganzer and Miranda Gutierrez from South Carolina by a score of 8-3. Freshman Caitlin Whoriskey and sophomore Samantha Orlin added a win on the consolation side of the first flight bracket, defeating the Wisconsin tandem of Liz Carpenter and Katya Mirnova, 8-4.

The Big Orange carried their momentum over into singles play, with three players moving to the final round of their respective flights. Senior Vicky Jones was the first Lady Vol to do so, knocking off Kaylan Caiati from Wisconsin, 6-0, 6-2, in flight two. Two Tennessee freshmen followed suit as Connor Vogel and Caitlin Whoriskey advanced to the finals of flights four and six. Vogel blew past Christyn Lucas of South Carolina, 6-0, 6-1, while Whoriskey defeated Penn State's Lauren McCarthy, 6-3, 6-1.

In other singles action, Griffith dropped a three-set decision, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2, to the nation's No. 17 player, Amanda Fish of Vanderbilt in flight one and Schutte fell 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, to South Carolina's Ana Zubori in flight three. Rounding out the squad's efforts were Orlin and Zubor who lost their matches against Vanderbilt teammates Liberty Sveke and Catherine Ferrell, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-1, respectively.

Following this weekend's competition, UT will next compete in the ITA Regional to be held Oct. 12-15 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
