WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Tennessee women's tennis team was near perfect on day one of main draw competition at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals at the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the campus of Purdue University.
Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely, the No. 1 seeded doubles duo remained perfect on day one with a pair of 8-2 victories. Boren and Szekely defeated Kayla Jones and Claire Mulyadi of UT Chattanooga in the round of 32 followed by a win over Vanderbilt's Frances Attick and Georgina Sellyn. They will continue on to the quarterfinals Saturday morning at 8 a.m.
On the singles side of things, top-seeded Boren earned the round of 64 win over Melissa Gerritsen from Eastern Kentucky who won her way into the main draw. Boren easily took down Gerritsen dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
The No. 2 seed, Szekely also advanced to the round of 32 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Amy Nini of Wright State. Tomorrow Szekely will face Nimish Mohan of Miami (OH).
Tennessee's lone loss on day one of competition came as freshman Tiffany Tavares dropped her match with host team Purdue's Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum 6-1, 6-1.
The Lady Vols will be back in action on day two of action Saturday morning.
