Sophomore Sabita Maharaj of the Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team defeated Kentucky's Sarah Foster on Saturday to advance to the Round of 16 at the Omni Hotel Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Tournament.
Maharaj, the tourney's eighth seed, downed Foster by a count of 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 in Saturday morning's Round of 32. In her next match, however, Maharaj met up against #12 seed and 99th-ranked Kendall Cline of North Carolina in the Round of 16, and fell, 6-4, 6-0.
Also in action for the Lady Vols on Saturday, juniors Ashley Robards and Majen Immink both dropped their Round of 32 matches. Robards, seeded fourth in the singles draw, fell to North Carolina State's Kristin Lam, 6-3, 6-4. Immink, meanwhile, was defeated by #2 seed and 88th-ranked Danela Alvarez of Clemson, 6-4, 6-2. All three Lady Vols had posted wins in the event's opening round on Friday.
Following their return from the tournament, the UT tennis squad's next competition will come at the SEC Coaches Tournament in Peachtree City, Ga., over Nov. 6-9.
