WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Junior Caitlin Whoriskey earned her fourth victory in three days to advance to the semifinals of the main singles draw on Sunday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional Championships, being held at the Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The East Sandwich, Mass., native, ranked 37th in the nation and seeded ninth at the tournament, notched a near-perfect, 6-1, 6-0, triumph over Clemson's Keri Wong to move on to the semifinal round where she will face another Tiger, Josipa Bek, on Monday.
In doubles action, the lone remaining Tennessee tandem, consisting of sophomores Maria Sorbello and Rosalía Alda, was eliminated in an extremely hard-fought quarterfinal contest, 9-8 (5), by the second-seeded North Carolina combination of Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski.
Following the conclusion of the ITA regional competition on Monday, Tennessee will close out the fall portion of its schedule Nov. 6-9 at the Southeastern Conference Coaches Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
