TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Two University of Tennessee women's tennis players scored three victories on day one of the Roberta Alison Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Friday afternoon.

Ashlee Boles and Tiffany Tavares together garnered a doubles victory and each won a singles match on the first day of competition.

"They both competed hard today," said co-head coach Sonia Hahn-Patrick. "For playing for the first time together at doubles, they had good chemistry. Both girls had a tough first round but they bounced back strong for their second round match."

The duo started the day with an 8-4 win in doubles defeating Joana Eidukowyte/Carola Pederzani (Clemson) to advance in the winners bracket.

In singles play, each Lady Vol fell in their first round action. Tavares dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match to Jessica Perez of Loyola Marymount while Boles fell 6-1, 6-3 to Perez' teammate Lisa Piller.

The twosome bounced back in their second round singles action on Friday afternoon with Boles taking down Maggie Leavell of Vanderbilt 6-2, 6-1 while Tavares earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jesse Grace of Middle Tennessee State.

The Lady Vols will return to action on Saturday in the final day of the Roberta Alison Classic. The day will begin with two rounds of doubles, followed by the final round of singles.
