FLUSHING, N.Y. - University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis players Maria Sorbello and Brynn Boren advanced to the quarterfinals of the main doubles draw at the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Thursday at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Boren and Sorbello toppled Nicole Bartnik and Bianca Sanon of host Columbia, 8-4. The Lady Vol tandem will now take on Florida's Sophie Oyen and Allie Wall, who upset No. 1 seed and defending NCAA Champions Hilary Barte and Mallory Burdette of Stanford, 9-7.
In singles action, Boren fell 6-2, 7-5 to Barte, who earned the top overall seed and is ranked second nationally.
The doubles quarterfinals and a consolation singles round will be played beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow with the singles round of 16 beginning immediately thereafter.
