BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After helping her team to a 2-0 record on the week, University of Tennessee women's tennis senior Kata Szekely was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week as announced by the SEC offices Wednesday.
The Szekesfehervar, Hungary native was perfect on the week earning two doubles, and two singles victories.
Alongside Brynn Boren, the nation's third ranked doubles tandem easily won their doubles matches on the weekend taking down No. 44 ranked Indiana Friday 8-2 before routing Ohio State's No. 1 doubles pair 8-2 on Sunday.
Szekely and Boren notched their 24th and 25th doubles wins this season on the weekend improving their win percentage to 86.2 percent. The wins were also the 86th and 87th of her career, one away from 12th all-time in the UT record books.
The duo has now won five straight matches and eight of their last nine.
In singles, Szekely earned her 20th singles win of the season, third straight and seventh in her last eight matches.
Szekely and the Lady Vols have the upcoming weekend off but will return to action next Saturday, March 2 at Noon with their SEC home opener against Georgia.
