BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After a perfect weekend where she helped her team to a 2-0 record over SEC opponents, University of Tennessee rookie Tiffany Tavares has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
This marks the third weekly honor for the Lady Vols this season as Kata Szekely earned Player of the Week honors the week of Feb. 20 while Boren was the Player of the Week for the week of March 13.
Tavares, who went 2-0 at No. 6 singles this weekend helped the Lady Vols to a 2-0 record over No. 46 Kentucky and No. 16 Vanderbilt.
On Friday night, Tavares helped the Lady Vols gain momentum in a 6-1 victory over Kentucky as she captured the third point of the match.
Against Vanderbilt, the Las Vegas native battled back from a 6-1 first set loss to earn a 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles to earn match point and help the Lady Vols to the upstate of their in-state rival.
Tavares and the Lady Vols will be back in action Wednesday night in a mid-week meeting at Prairie View A&M University.
