KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 14-ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team will hit the road this weekend to face a pair of ranked Southeastern Conference foes, as it heads to No. 37 South Carolina on Friday before squaring off with No. 2 Florida on Sunday.
The Lady Vols (15-4, 7-0) are looking to extend their five-match winning streak. Last weekend, UT swept Mississippi State and No. 27 Ole Miss.
This weekend will go a long way in determining the SEC East race, as Florida (8-0) takes on Georgia (8-0) Friday before playing host to UT (7-0).
South Carolina enters this weekend with a 12-6 record and a 4-4 mark in the SEC. USC split a pair of matches last weekend, falling to No. 21 Vanderbilt, 4-3, before rebounding with a 6-1 victory against Kentucky.
USC's top singles player, No. 38-ranked Anya Morgina, boasts an eight-match winning streak and currently has a team-best 22 singles wins. No. 2 singles player Dijana Stojic is the 123rd-ranked player in the nation.
Tennessee holds a 22-17 lead in the all-time series, having won nine of the past 11 contests, including a 4-3 decision on April 11, 2010.
The doubles duo of Jennifer Meredith and Kata Szekely currently holds a 17-match winning streak, the longest such streak in the SEC. Szekely and Maria Sorbello also boast five-match singles winning streaks.
On Sunday, UT will take on the second-ranked Florida Gators. UF (19-1, 8-0) has been utterly dominant in league play, shutting out seven of eight opponents. Florida boasts six players ranked among the top 100 singles players in the nation, led by sixth-rated Allie Will.
