KNOXVILLE - For the first time in her career, Caitlyn Williams has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-SEC Player of the Week after her outstanding play against LSU and Arkansas.
The honor is the second weekly SEC honor of Williams' career after being named Freshman of the Week on March 7, 2012.
Williams becomes the first Player of the Week honoree since Brynn Boren garnered the honors on March 13, 2013.
In her official return to singles action after battling an injury this spring, Williams fought to a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory, her first of the 2014 spring season, and the match clincher against LSU on Friday night.
Williams was close to capturing her second straight match point on Sunday just one point away against Yang Pang of Arkansas (6-0, 5-3) when Laurence Guevremont earned the honors on court four.
The Knoxville native was also undefeated in doubles action, helping the Lady Vols to sweep the doubles point on the weekend, the first time UT has done so in SEC action this season.
Williams, and partner Joanna Henderson, ranked 75th in the country, easily defeated their opponents from the No. 1 spot 8-2 Friday and 8-1 on Sunday for their 10th and 11th doubles wins as a partnership on the year.
Sunday's win was Williams' 40th career doubles victory and her 30th with Henderson.
