KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After leading Tennessee to its first victory at Georgia in 14 years, Lady Vol senior Caitlin Whoriskey was named SEC Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Whoriskey earned the match-clinching point in UT's 4-2 victory over the No. 13 Bulldogs, defeating 12th-ranked Chelsey Gullickson, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4
The senior from East Sandwich, Mass. trailed 2-0 in the final set before rallying to win six of the next eight games and, ultimately, the match.
On the season, Whoriskey is 28-10 in singles action, including a 9-2 mark in the SEC. She has a 7-7 mark against top-25 singles players. She also boasts a 32-3 record in doubles play, including 10-1 in league play.
The win locked up a first-round bye for 14th-ranked Tennessee in the SEC Tournament, which begins Thursday. UT will face the winner of the quarterfinal matchup between No. 6 Vanderbilt and No. 11 Mississippi State on Friday at 2 p.m.
This is the second time this season and the fourth time in her career that Whoriskey has earned SEC Player of the Week honors.
Live scoring and video will be available on the Georgia website. A live blog of Friday's match will be available on UTLadyVols.com
