The No. 14-ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team will begin its quest for a Southeastern Conference championship on Friday in the 2011 SEC Women's Tennis Championship at Barksdale Stadium.

Tennessee (17-6, 9-2) earned a first-round bye in the tournament by finishing second overall in the league standings. UT will take on the winner of a first round contest between No. 7 seed LSU and No. 10-seeded Kentucky. The Lady Vols defeated Kentucky, 6-1, on March 11 and LSU, 7-0, on March 27.

The Orange and White will be looking for solid contributions from its doubles teams, which have taken the doubles point in 19 of 23 matches this season. The duo of Natalie Pluskota and Brynn Boren is currently ranked No. 16 in the nation after defeating the No. 11 tandem of Chelsey Gullickson and Kate Fuller of Georgia on April 17.

Senior Jennifer Meredith has teamed up with sophomore Kata Szekely to record a 20-1 record in doubles play, including 19 straight wins from Jan. 31-April 10.

Three Lady Vols rank among the nation's best in singles. Junior Natalie Pluskota comes in at No. 34 in the Campbell/ITA Women's Singles Poll, while freshman Brynn Boren ranks 44th nationally and senior Rosalía Alda rounds out the trio of ranked Lady Vols, standing at No. 97.

Alda had a stellar season, setting a career high with 24 singles wins. She also moved into fifth place in school history with 108 career doubles wins. Her 28 doubles victories this season rank first on the team. Boren and fellow freshman Millie Nichols tied for the team lead with 26 singles wins.

The Big Orange has advanced to the finals of the SEC Tournament each of the past two seasons. Last year, Florida topped Tennessee, 4-1, in Athens, Ga.

A tournament central page with live scoring is available on UTLadyVols.com. Additionally, a live blog of UT's match will also be available.
