WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Former Lady Vol standout Caitlin Whoriskey has earned a spot in the US Open National Playoffs.
Whoriskey earned her spot after winning the singles tournament at the USTA New England Sectional Qualifier this past weekend, June 12-15 in West Haven, Conn.
The East Sandwich, Mass. native, will return to New Haven, Conn. for the National Playoffs from August 15-18 where she will compete for a chance to play in the US Open qualifying rounds from August 19-22.
The US Open begins on August 25.
Whoriskey, who was named the 2010 College Senior Player of the Year after leading the Volunteers to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight seasons, captured her first career USTA Pro Circuit singles title in May at the $10,000 event in Hilton Head Island, S.C., where she also won the doubles crown.
The Lady Vols spent the first half of 2013 competing in Europe, where she reached back-to-back ITF singles finals in Turkey in May. She has also captured four ITF doubles titles throughout the world.
