MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Former Lady Vol Caitlin Whoriskey opened her professional career in style, capturing the doubles title at the Mt. Pleasant Women's Pro Classic over the weekend.

Paired with Southern California signee Kaitlyn Christian, Whoriskey earned a spot in the main draw, where the tandem eked out a victory over Dianne Hollands and Ivana King in the first round, winning 6-1, 6-7 (5) [10-8].

That would prove to be the duo's only difficult match of the tournament. In the quarterfinals, they topped former LSU Tiger Megan Falcon and Nicola Slater, 6-2, 6-2.

They cruised into the finals with another 6-2, 6-2 victory, this time defeating Emily Harman and Eleanor Peters, both of whom play for Syracuse.

In the title match, Whoriskey and Christian topped Petra Rampre and Shelby Rogers, 6-4, 6-2. Rampre has been playing professionally for 14 years and climbed as high as No. 88 in the WTA rankings in November 2000.

The championship is Whoriskey's first as a professional. In four years at Tennessee, she was one of the most prolific doubles players in school history. She ranks fourth on the all-time doubles wins list with 113. She also brought home the 2007 and 2009 ITA All-American Doubles Championships, the first such titles in school history.

This past season, she racked up a 40-6 doubles record, the highest total in school history during the NCAA era. She was an All-American in both singles and doubles and earned ITA National Senior Player of the Year honors.

In singles play, Whoriskey earned a spot in the main draw and advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to junior tennis phenom Lauren Davis, 6-0, 6-2.

Whoriskey wasn't the only Lady Vol to compete in this tournament. Rising Senior Maria Sorbello played in the tournament as well, pairing with signee Brynn Boren to advance past the qualifying stage and into the main doubles draw before falling to Rogers and Rampre.

Boren advanced to the finals of the singles qualifying draw but was knocked out by Victoria Duval, 6-1, 7-5.
