KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee women's tennis team will kick off its fall tournament schedule Friday morning at the 2010 SEC Fall Coaches' Classic at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Ala.
Though the Lady Vols are anxious to begin the fall campaign, UT will not be traveling a full squad this weekend. Senior Rosalía Alda, an All-SEC second team selection last spring will be joined by newcomers Brynn Boren, Millicent Nichols, Whitney Wofford and Kayla McMurry. The rest of the roster will remain in Knoxville, recovering from injuries.
While Co-head coach Mike Patrick knows what he has in Alda, a three-year letterwinner, he is excited to see how his young players fare in their first-ever collegiate tournament.
"From watching them practice, they're all working hard and doing what they can to be as proficient as possible," Patrick said. "We just want them to compete hard (this weekend).
"They need to work on learning how to build points and not self destruct out there. We're looking for some real basic, high-percentage stuff like first serves and making good returns. We'll see how we do."
Patrick said that he expects this weekend to be very beneficial for his squad.
"It's going to be fun," Patrick said. "(The freshmen) are all excited about playing their first college matches. It will be good to have a list of stuff we need to work on heading into our next tournament."
Check UTLadyVols.com later this evening for the singles and doubles draws, which have yet to be released. The tournament runs from Friday-Sunday. Play begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET
Results will be available at www.AuburnTigers.com during the weekend and on UTLadyVols.com at the end of each day of the competition.
