PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Rainy weather Wednesday postponed play at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship qualifiers and ultimately halted the Tennessee women's tennis team's momentum after an undefeated Tuesday.
Pluskota lost to South Carolina's Zoe Scandalis 7-6 (5), 6-3. She will bring a 4-2 singles record back to Knoxville, but not before competing for the All-American doubles championship with freshman Joanna Henderson. Ranked 22nd together, the pair will open the doubles main draw against No. 27 Courtney McLane and Taylor Lindsey (Alabama).
Pluskota and Henderson are 2-1 together, but have not played ranked competition.
Boren dropped a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 decision to No. 28 Diana Nakic (Baylor) and sits at 3-3 on the season.
The Laguna Niguel, Calif., native has another shot at advancing to the tournament's main draws, this time in doubles. Alongside freshman Sarah Toti, the No. 28-ranked duo will face No. 43 Juliette Coupez and Stephanie Hoffpauir of San Diego on Thursday at 9 a.m. PST. Coupez and Hoffpauir are the first ranked pair the 3-1 combo will face this season.
Boren and Toti need two wins to capture one of the four qualifier spots in the main draws.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
The All-American Championship began in 1983 and features the top 128 players in the country.
