FLUSHING, N.Y. - University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis players Brynn Boren and Maria Sorbello are competing in the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which begin tomorrow and run through Nov. 7 at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Play begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday with the round of 32 in the main singles draw and the main doubles draw.
Boren, who clinched a spot in the field by winning the singles title at the 2010 USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional, draws No. 1 overall seed Hilary Barte of Stanford in the opening round.
A freshman from Laguna Niguel, Calif., Boren boasts an 11-3 singles record in her inaugural campaign at Rocky Top. Barte will be the fourth ranked opponent Boren has faced this season. Boren boasts a 3-1 record in those contests. Barte received an automatic bid into the field by capturing the singles title at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
Boren will also be competing in the main doubles draw with teammate Maria Sorbello. Boren and Sorbello toppled teammates Rosalía Alda and Millie Nichols to claim the doubles title at the 2010 USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.
The Ohio Valley Regional marked Sorbello's first tournament of the fall season. She and Boren posted an impressive 5-0 mark en route to winning the title.
Boren and Sorbello will face Nicole Bartnik and Bianco Sanon of Columbia, who got a wildcard spot in the field since Columbia is the host institution.
