KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Lady Vol tennis team will conclude its fall schedule this weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational, held in Winston-Salem, N.C. from Nov. 5-7.
The Lady Vols will be somewhat shorthanded for this tournament, as Maria Sorbello and Brynn Boren are currently competing in the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in New York City.
Still, Tennessee is aiming to close the fall season in strong fashion. UT has been solid in three previous fall tournaments.
Senior Rosalía Alda has recorded a 9-6 mark so far in tournament singles play. Alda has four wins over top-100 foes, including an impressive defeat of No. 19-rated Alison Ramos of Southern California at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Freshmen Whitney Wofford (7-3) and Millie Nichols (5-4) have also been big contributors so far in singles.
When paired together in doubles, Alda and Nichols are 7-1. The duo took home the flight one doubles title at the 2010 Furman Fall Classic on Sept. 26, defeating No. 44-ranked Shinann Featherston and Lauren McHale of North Carolina in the process.
There will be no specific draws for the tournament. Play will begin on Friday with doubles contests between UT and NC State at 9 a.m. Following that, UT will take on Furman in singles.
After a brief break, the Orange and White will be back in action in doubles play against Wake Forest at 3 p.m.
The Lady Vols will play Furman in doubles at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Sunday, Tennessee will face NC State in singles at 9 a.m. Tennessee's tournament will conclude with singles matches against Wake Forest at 11:30 a.m.
