GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Tennessee women's track & field team won one relay event and charted a school record in another Saturday on the final day of the 63rd Pepsi Florida Relays at Percy Beard Track.

The 10th-ranked Lady Volunteers cruised to victory in the 4x800-meter relay, crossing the line in eight minutes, 36.19 seconds. The quartet of freshman Rose-Anne Galligan (County Kildare, Ireland), senior Leslie Treherne (Chesapeake, Va.), freshman Phoebe Wright (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and sophomore Sarah Bowman (Warrenton, Va.) posted the 10th-best time in school history and easily finished ahead of Florida's 9:04.23 runner-up readout.

The Big Orange women opened the day with a second-place, UT-record effort in the shuttle hurdle relay, an event the program had not competed in since 1997. The combination of freshman Nia Ali (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Celriece Law (Denver, Colo.), sophomore Pavi'Elle "Tiki" James (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Lynne Layne (New Rochelle, N.Y.) produced a clocking of 55.29 seconds to topple the previous school mark of 56.93, set in 1994 by Leslie Henley, Vickie Hudson, Marvena Almond and Kim Townes. It was the Orange and White's second school mark in as many days, as junior Shanna Dickenson (Cincinnati, Ohio) increased the hammer throw standard on Friday.

Tennessee also added a fifth-place performance of 11:59.21 in the distance medley relay, with freshman Jackie Areson (Delray Beach, Fla.), sophomore Rolanda Bell (Laurelton, N.Y.), freshman Kelly Parrish (Ocala, Fla.) and sophomore Katie Van Horn (Glendora, N.J.) handling the baton. The Lady Vols closed the day by taking 11th and 16th, respectively, with their patchwork entries in the 4x400m relay. Carrying the baton for the 3:50.15 "A" group were junior LaTonya Loche (Bastrop, La.), Layne, Bowman and Wright , while the 4:04.32 "B" tandem was represented by Galligan, Bell, Parrish and Areson.

Individually, junior Amara McKell (Nashville, Tenn.) set the tone, placing fourth in the "A" division of the discus with a career-best fling of 153-10 and taking seventh in the "A" javelin at 115-2. Elsewhere, Dickenson was seventh in the "A" discus at 137-0, Ali was 10th in the invitational 200 meters in a career-best 24.21 and sophomore Brittany Daniels (Tracy, Calif.) was 13th in the "A" triple jump at 36-5 3/4.

The Lady Vols will now turn their focus toward their first and only home meet of the entire 2007 season. They will join the UT men in playing host to the Sea Ray Relays at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium on April 11-14. Head Coach J.J. Clark also will take a select group of distance runners to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., during that same time frame.
