LaJOLLA, CALIF. -- While many of their teammates were in Philadelphia competing in the Penn Relays, the Tennessee throws corps is on the West Coast, competing in the UCSD Triton Invitational.
In a meet with an impressive gathering of world-class throwers, Tennessee was in action in three women's events on Friday. The UT men and the rest of the women's throwers will swing into full action on Saturday on the final day of the UCSD meet.
On Friday in LaJolla, senior Annie Alexander and sophomore Aslynn Halvorson posted 12th-place finishes in the Invitational and Open discus throws, respectively, with marks of 177-4 and 161-7. Junior Jessie Harrison was 19th in the Invitational hammer throw at 167-9.
Late Thursday night, four UT athletes took part in the Elite discus throw. In the women's division, Annie Alexander was seventh at 175-5, while Aslynn Halvorson was 13th at 158-0. In the men's competition, Matthew Hoty was 36th at 159-9, while Tavis Bailey was 38th at 157-8.
